Garudasana / Eagle Pose - twisted or knotty?

Updated: Sep 30, 2023

Garudasana or Eagle pose is hands down one of my least favorite poses. But in yoga - there's a saying that the more you resist a pose, the more you need the pose. Sadly this only applies to physical pain not mental or emotional pain so here we are

Not sure if it's the pose itself or if it's because of ptsd from holding it for too many breaths, but it gives me the ick. However - it is a great pose to stretch your major joints and work your internal rotators of your hips. Not only does this stretch your ankles, but also the more your work your internal rotations, the better your ankle mobility (not mentioned in the video). My ankles are tight as a old breadstick from olive garden, so I should probably practice what I preach and start pretzeling into an eagle more often

💡 Priorities:

1/ hip adduction + IR + balance

2/ mini backbend

3 + 4/ chest adduction + shoulder opening

🌱 Poses / drills:

1/ Eagle legs on your back

2/ Deer Internal Rotation Drills

3/ Warrior I to chair flow

4/ shoelace shoulder stretch
