Camel - am i doing camel or am i peacocking

Updated: Oct 7, 2023

When I first started yoga - I hurt my back doing camel because I did not know backbends started at the chest and I had no idea what I was doing because I never exercised growing up. Because of this - I practiced tilting my chest and leading backbends with my chest so many times that I always think of peacocking whenever I do camel.

Doesn't the puffing of your chest remind you of people who peacock or is that just me lol It also reminds me of peacocking because sometimes I get nauseous in this pose like how I get nauseous looking at people who peacock. Coincidence? I think not!

Anywho - if you're ever unsure if you're peacocking before you come into a backbend, this is a great pose to practice to help you safely and effectively get deep into your backbends

💡 Priorities:

1/ hip flexor / quad

2/ chest opening

3/ internal rotation of thighs

🌱 Poses / drills to help:

1/ half frog

2/ bridge with your heels lifted

3/ reverse table top

4/ camel variation drills
